Sooo I bought one of these hoping to get rid of the key start but apparently I'm a bit confussed?

It's a 4 button - lock, unlock, 2x for the lift gate and panic & a chunky blank key that will not fit the current door and start key tumbler. Can I still use this FOB or do I need to revert to the older 4button fob like my 2003 Cobra uses?

If I can still use this fob, what am I missing? I've search and I still cant find answers.

Thanks

Rich

Maybe I am misunderstanding. If you don't have keyless start on the vehicle, no fob will give you that, unless there is some setting Forscan can toggle? My aunt has a Ford that came with that fob, and it doesn't have keyless start. I only mean keyless, not remote start which Forscan can toggle on with the right remote having a button for it, but not sure about PIU differences.

What else are you hoping to gain? It won't take the same key blanks as yours (maybe you can grind down a key to fit in it? I have no idea.) so having your other key with the PATS chip, PLUS that fob even if you could get it to work, just seems like more bulk to carry around?

I wanted to add remote unlock to my 2017 PIU. The more I read/searched if I had the correct pieces I believed I could remove the key start and upgrade to the start/stop button and gain remote door unlock. AS I searched FOBS - I found 4 different styles - one similar to the regular fob (like on my Cobra), a flip key style, a 4 button or a 5 button fob with hidden key blank. I bought the 4 button one, in hopes of doing this using OEM stuff.
Problem is I do not know what else is needed because everything I have found is on upgrading the older PIUs. and tweaking the programming with forscan.

Does the PIU have remote anything now? You may require the correct receiving unit (module/antenna) as well, assuming this is possible.

It has Sync, BT and TPMS. Although the TPMS is currently not working. I'm still going through the car and trying to make sense of what can be done and if not what can I do to make things work that I'd like.

regarding the TPMS, mine have problems due a problem with the BCM, i just disabled it with forscan, dealer wants $150 just to check it, even when i presented all the failures codes and results from forscan, since it looks like you have some knowledge with forscan, i will read the codes and see where the problem is, good luck.

I bought a couple of after-market four-button keys and futzed around in FORscan and got them to work on my '13 PIU.

Once the appropriate codes are in FORscan, I did the lock/unlock/lock/unlock cycle followed by 8 rapid ignitions on/off to put it into programming mode. Pressed a button on each key and the system recognized them.

Now I'm working on installing a hood switch to see if I can get Remote Start working. Will update on my progress.

Remote Start success! Picked up a $13 hood switch from Quirk. The wiring for the hood switch is all there, just covered with a non-functional plastic cap. Swapped out the part, went into FORscan, entered the codes and it works.

Speaking of quirks, it only seems to work when you've double-locked the PIU. Unlocked or locked with a single press doesn't seem to allow remote start to fire up.

I've been reading that there's potentially a factory alarm system that may be installed, which also requires the hood switch. Have any of you "uncovered" a factory alarm system in your PIU?

I havent taken a look yet, hope to do so when the roofer is here and I have some time off work to mess with stuff.
