I've searched and searched....good stuff on this site!!

I have a 96 XLT 4x2 V6. Engine is stock. I'm thinking of putting a K&N drop in filter, but may be leaning towards buying the whole kit. I've read some conversation about drilling holes in the filter boxes. Would this have similar results to installing the K&N kit without the cost? Or am I way off? Sorry, I am new to this. I am looking to improve the performance of my explorer. My driving is mostly on the street (unfortunately).

Thanks for any help with this.

future mods: K&N filter, Bosch platinum +4, splitfire wires, borla catback exhaust (hhmmm...in what order??)

Welcome to the site,
In short, yes. It just depends on how many holes you add. It will breath a whole lot better, just look at that small hole your truck has to breath through. Add more holes, get more air. Dead Link Removed

Thanks for the reply!

So, should I try the drop in filter w/adding holes instead of buying the kit?

Thanks again!
