Okay, I've replaced the transmission after finding a leak in the last one. (Bell housing was cracked) I actually had a 'new to me' Tranny and transfer case sitting in the truck and had just been putting off installing them. (half the mileage of the previous :))

Now though, when I step on the gas at any speed over 60kph (~45mph) it sounds like there is a cricket under the dash. It's only when I am accelerating and only for a few seconds, but it is definitely there - where it wasn't before. Any ideas?

And the truck had never engaged into 4 low since I bought it, so the transfer case and shift motor were changed out as well. This hasn't, however, fixed the 4 low. It still won't engage, so does this mean I should be checking the electrical between the dash and the shift motor since 4 low just won't engage with either t-case? (And yes, I have tried switching while in neutral with the brake fully depressed)

Update on progress

Well, I seem to have 'killed the cricket.' It was a hardline running from the transmission rubbing against the firewall. Easy fix and now the tranny sounds great.

As for the 4 low, I still haven't been able to track down the problem. Removing the shift motor and turning the gear manually works and it will engage, (still no 4 low dash light, however) but nothing happens when I use the switch in the dashboard.

I have never seen the 4 low light on the dash light up either, even at start up. So I replaced the switch to no avail. The transfer case and the shift motor were changed as well (as I mentioned in the previous post) so I am thinking it must be electrical, but I'm not exactly electrically inclined.

So, any thoughts or am I on my own with this one?
