Well it's exaclty what the title says. It sounds like I've got chains hanging down whenever I hit a bump. I've had it ever since I bought my X in October of last year. When I bought it the 4" Skyjacker lift was already installed. Do anyone else have this sound or know what it might be? It sounds like changes are dragging the ground or rattling around.

Thanks!

Check and see how close your coil spring loops are to each other. Mine has a similar sound and I have come to the conclusion the the coils of the springs are just rattling together.

It sounds like it's coming more from the rear but I'll check and see.

did you check for chains? :p

maybe something like a heat shield is rusted and coming loose?

Travis you should probably check that dampener like i told you. That wouldn't sound like chains, but it will help with the vibration you told me about.

Chains huh, i don't have a clue on that one. You sure you don't have something in the back??

I had the same problem with my truck and It was the rear ubolts coming loose. They were so loose I could loosen them with my finger

I sure hope it's not the ubolts seeing as how it's been doing it since October. I guess I can go beat around underneath my truck and see if I hear anything.

could it be the metal clips holding the leafpacks togeather? mine gingle sometimes.

Mine has been doing this exact noise for about a year or more, it seems to come from the front passenger side on mine. From what i have read here I think it is the radius arm bushings but I havent had the money to even think about fixing it.

Check the heat shield on the cat converter, its under the passenger front. Gen 1 X's are known for this. Fix is to get a couple of largehose clamps and wrap the converter with them, then tighten down. Or if you like flames, just rip the shield off.

no clue if this is it but just to let you know the bottom bolts on my rear shocks loosen'd up and it sounded exactly like chains under there when i hit bumps, took me forever to figure it out, i never figured those could possibly come loose... even tho mine is a 2nd gen. its worth a shot eh

I don't know where in the heck travis has been or why he hasn't replied, but he doesn't drive the explorer any since he has a DD. But the last time we went out he never said anything about it making noises. I'll check with him to see what he says.

Same problem sounds like chains jingling when I hit bumps. But when it's parked I can bounce the truck up and down as hard as a person can and nothing.from the front and back. I even did fast hard pushes to simulate a bump and not a peep. But get in and hit the slightest bump and sounds like I dumped a 5 gallon bucket of change. Wtf is it

I know this is way late, but there are some plates/ brackets that will come loose in the rear bumper. they are superficial, your bumper wont fall off, but they will rattle over bumps and not when you shake the truck
