My stock fan blade is cracked but not too bad....seems solid..but after hearing some folks talk about it ripping thru the rad (mine is brand new) I dont want to chance it...

Did a search here and didnt find any info on sources for the replacement fans....

I searched online...best price I can find is $38, but then they add on another $8 in "handling" and then $8 or so in shipping......Is this my best bet?? Or would a local dealer be able to hit that same price???

Ford parts netork wants $56 plus shipping....

Thanks in advance.....

i just had the same problem. i decided to try a junk yard to see if they had anything. i got a fan in great condition, no damage, for $6. the only hard part is getting the damn thing off. if you dont have a good chain wrench and a 36mm wrench, try buying the special ford fan wrench set. its about $30. youll need it to install the new one also, so it may be worth it.

oh i didnt mention that they have the wrench set at pep boys.

Thanks!

I called the local ford stealer and to my surprise they want only $40 brand new....

I was thinking about going sued, but havent found one yet...plus, they would be 10 years old...I figure the chances of my finding an uncracked on is probably slim....one local yard has one (a "DB: model") and it is $30.....I figure that the extra $10 is well spent, since it will be new plastic.....

I had rented the special wrneches from autozone but found that the wrench was too big...so I used the one tool and then my own wrench...Can I use my chain-vice grips on the pulley??? How would I keep it from scratching/gouging the pulley?

yeah, I know.....I got them there before when I did the rad, etc...
I just hate to borrow tools from stores that I am not buying the part at... <grin>

what is the part number for the fan on your car? it may be the same as whats on the newer vehicles, i believe its 8146 or 8600.

didnt have a problem with the chain wrench hurting the pulley. maybe i just got lucky?

Not sure...I got the part and installed it........

Chances are the thing would never have broken completely...but after the one story I read here where the guy lost a rad due to it, I figured I wouldnt chance it...

This truck is a money pit...... <grin>
