Depends what size wheel and tire you have. Easy way of telling is looking at the tires you have, and finding the sizing and go from there.

Maybe i should state my question a differant way. My 2000 xlt 4x4 is missing its spare tire and wheel and i want to go to the salvage yard and get another one and would like to know what year Explorers are the same. Thanks

There are different size tire and wheel packages within every model year.
I'm pretty sure the lug pattern for the wheel will work plus or minus 5 years from your model (and more), but the tire diameter might be completely different. As Keeper said, you're going to have to check your sidewall.
