Most Explorers come with a 235 tire with a 225 spare. My 96 EB came with 255 and a 225 spare.

When I dump the Firestone's I am thinking of going to a 265 but what spare should I get? Running a 225 won't be good with a 265 on the other side so I think I should get a 255 ot 265 as a spare. But will it fit in the spare tire holder? What do you all have as spares.

thx, Brian

I'd do a search, there are several threads about this. I run a 32" spare tire and also have a class 3 hitch hanging down there, solution, a little deflation and carry a compressor

i have the 16" wheels and the P255 tires. well my P255 wouldn't totally fit under the truck because it would hit my class III hitch. who don't you try cramming one of your tires under thetre and see if it fits without a hitch. let me know too.

I just changed my tires on my 98 EB from 255 to 265/70R16. I do not have a trailer hitch, but the 265/70R16 spare fits under my truck fine and seems to have a little room to spare.

I know they made some changes from 98 onwards so that the spare tire would be the same size as the other 4. Before 98, the spare would be amazingly small due to space constraints.

The spare tire size shouldn't be that much of an issue; how long will you actually be driving with it?

I just replaced the stock 255s on my 01 sport with Interco TruXus 265/75/16s. Its a big tire, but fits fine in the carrier.

I have a 32x11.5 with no hitch. Fits no problem.
