What is the largest size tire that will fit under the X in the spare tire carrier? I'd like to buy some 31's but I want all five tires so I can rotate the "spare" in sot they all have the same tread life. oh yeah, its a 92 4 door

i think i'v seen it posted that 31's will fit in a spare location.

Yeah a 31" tire will fit.

If it didn't fit, you can buy a roof rack. Summitracing.com has a surco roof rack (part number SUR-S4050) for only $158. Plus it looks really good too.

stupid question, but how do you all put the spare on, and take it off the roof rack? do you just let it roll off? this seems like it would be difficult especially if the x is lifted. thanks

Very carefully and with strong arms ;)

I have a 31x10.5x15 in my stock spare location, with a Hitch and EE swaybars. Fits fine with room to spare.

i think the back spare mount would be a lot easier

I have 29.6 inch spare tire, hidden hitch, EE swaybar and I could barely fit it under there. I had to hammer the small tongue hanging back there to make the spare flush against the ceiling wall. You must've done the same to make that 31 fit in there. :)

Nope... threw that tire onto the winch and cranked it up. Granted, the 31 is almost bald, but not down to the treadwear indictors yet.

The difference is that my hitch is the OEM hitch that bolts together, and hangs down, not the hidden hitch which is tucked up.

Thanks for all the info. I thought about building a swing out carrier off the bumper like on my old Bronco. But it would be hard for me to carry stuff that would stick out. I also got some 3/4" round tubing to build a roof rack, but I would want enough room for coolers tent etc and I need to put a body lift because I'm gathering the parts for a 302 conversion. I'll figure something out.
