Hey guys, what is the difficulty of changing the plugs and wires on a 1996 Explorer V6. I saw several videos that showed going thru the passenger side wheel well and others removed the air intake hose. Any tips or warnings before I start in a couple of days? Thanks

Use the passenger side wheel well. You might even take the tire off, but this is not necessary. One plug and one wire at a time, starting with the longest may be best ----be careful NOT to mix up the firing order for the plugs! Take your time.

Good luck!

If your hands are big or if you don't mind the extra work, go the wheel well route. These days, I can get my plugs/wires without having to go through the wheel well. On the driver's side, I remove the two screws holding the EGR valve and tube assembly to the intake manifold port, and let the valve/tube assembly swing aside. That gives plenty of access.

On the passenger side, I don't need to remove anything. With a 3/8 ratchet and a short extension (I think it's a 1.5" extension), I can get the passenger side plug nearest the firewall out no problem. The trick is to stand in front of the engine and put your whole arm into the space between the coolant recovery tank and the engine as you operate the wrench. Put the plug socket/extension on the plug first, and then put the ratchet on the extension. Of course, if your arms are too big... :)
