Wal-Mart sells Pioneers 6x8 and 6x9 for under $70.00 a pair. If you are buying only door speakers, no amp is needed.

i got the Kenwood ones that fit the holes from Crutchfield, they fit well and sound great ,

Those would be 5x7 or 6x8, correct? Cutting is required for 6x9s.

ya its 6x8 and it would sound straight with just door speakers right? on crutchfield they were saying something about kick panel speakers. do i need those? and is it worth the extra money to buy tweeters

I think tweeters would be great... Kick panels, eh, not so sure about that. I wouldn't do it only because that's where feet go.

mine actually sounds great , but the one thing to consider is ,
is this used as a commuter , ie, , daily driver,. or a trail rig,, hunting/fishing rig, ,
if so , than having too much , is well,,,, too much ,
but if just putting in door speakers you will find a good set of 2 or 3 way speakers will liven up the sound in a great way ,:thumbsup:

but be forewarned, i thought that would be it, now i have 4 amps,
2 for the front and back speakers, and 2 for the 2 ,12 inch subs,, ,
so expansion is likely,, he he he ,, , ,:D:D:D

I prefer speakers with the crossover on board, just because running another set of wires to the door isn't my idea of fun (but really, it's not hard either, just rather use what's there)....you could also cheat and put the crossovers on doublesided tape in the door...there is a lot of room in there, just keep clear of the mechanicals...

For simple drop in and good quality, I'm partial to Boston Acoustics, S85s are a direct drop in fit....SL80's are nice but technically don't fit *EXACTLY* one screw hole doesn't line up, so drill another one, or be happy with 3 screws holding it (the door panel goes back on over it anyway, no chance of it ever falling out anyway.) I documented my SL80 and continuing install HERE if it helps, lots o pictures.....

S85's are $70-75 or so new on ebay...SL80's used go for around $80-120 (170 new)

As for kick panels....depending on the year (ESP late model) none are available...and as said before, that's where you feet go....unless your really into the audio scene and the intrusion is worth it to you, I'd avoid kickpanels...they get in your way and the speakers end up getting...ummmm......kicked....in daily use.

Inside the door is not a good place to put crossover cause water goes inthere and can damage your X over.

To the OP, What are you trying to do, just upgrade your speakers or get a complete set, what do you like plain and simple or you like to have some work.

We need more info, are you gonna add amps, sub, etc??

i bought a DUAL HEAD UNIT, and KENWOOD 5x7's ( 220 watts ) and together they sound great... i did buy two 10's, but i didnt even want to install them cause between the head unit and the speakers... i got more than enough bump in my explorer to make me happy !!!

hope you find what your looking for bud !!

DUAL HEAD UNIT - 100$

4 5x7 KENWOOD door SPEAKERS - 140$
