Looking at upgrading the stock 22yr old speakers in my 2nd gen.

What should I use for the doors? I was thinking 6x8" but someone suggested 6" components. Looking at adding an amp to drive them too.

Thanks

Using 6.5" in the front doors is a serious improvement, over the best 5x7 or 5x8 out there.

Adding an amp for these is a game changer. A small amp is even leaps & bounds better than the aftermarket 50wx4 radio power supply. Cleaner power and cleaner sound with the new speakers designed to take the power.

Once you have the adapter plates and convert the doors for these round units, the choices for a good quality speaker is greatly increased. I would just start shopping & reading reviews in products that meet your budget. The price range is vast, so no way to know, what to offer.

I run 6.5" in the front doors, 5" round mid/2"dome tweets in the rear doors, and a 10" sub in the back.

I've got the 10" mtx in the back.

Sony XAV-7W up front so that will run a decent amp and whatnot.

I'm looking for a nice rich sound. I don't mind spending a bit extra to get a nice rich sound.

you have skills. why not make some kick panel pods? that way you can shove any size i there. i would also say boston acoustics. but i am not sure if they make them anymore or not. i kept the ones out of celly's truck, and stuck them in evil. very nice sound to them.

I'm probably just going to keep them in the doors. Right hand drive accelerator pedal is too near to the panel for a pod ☹

I think I'll just put some dynamat on the doors and I was thinking pioneers or something as I've had good experience with them in the past

Alpine, Infinity, Rockford Fosgate and Boston are all great choices. Polk audio even makes a decent car speaker these days. Cerwin Vega has both low & high end units. Always been a big fan of them.

The Pioneers & Sony 6.5" are on the lower end but will still blow away the higher end stock size. The woofers, can just take the power thrown at them so much easier, and produce better mids and lows.

I dont see any mention of a budget. Hard to recommend anything without a budget.
