- 1996 4X4 4R->5R mod
My daughter's 1996 4X4 4.0 threw 0303 and 0305 codes. Checking this and that, I came to the ignition module. The book I have says the secondary resistance should be between 9K and 11K. The reading I get for all three coil pairs is more like 15.8 ohms. Still get a spark well over 30KV, so they are obviously not shorted. Or maybe not so obviously. Question is .... what should the secondary's read 1-5, etc.???
In checking for spark on each of the plug wires using an induction coupled timing light, I get steady flashes on "good" cylinders, e.g. #1, but no flashes from #3 (even though #3 pops a strong spark at the module) and jittery flashes from #5. Is that a reasonable test of functionality?
Thanks!
Joe
