Hi all

I am new to this forum. I have a Ford Explorer 2000 North Face and look for a experienced mechanic/enthusiast who can help me fix a few things with timing, idle timer, etc. I am based in the UK - North Hampshire / Surry border. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Bert

I'm no where near you but post a thread or pm and i'll be glad to try and help.
I have done the chains on 2 of these engines as well as valves, con rod bearings, oil pump and head gasket so i may be able to help with advice.
Welcome

Bert,

Welcome, you are not far from me :)

You could try Duncan in Aylesbury.

He just did my intake gaskets for me...Yesterday (Bank Holiday).

Thanks a lot for the tips guys. I have used Justin in the past. He did a great job fixing the rattling timing chain problem I had - trouble is, he's based over 2 hours away from me, so a bit of a stretch.

I am not much of a mechanic myself, but I love driving this car and would like to get it fixed properly. I have just spent a fait bit of money on it with my local mechanic to get a new exhaust section and to change the idle control valve. Trouble is, it's even worse than it was.

The engine is hard to start when cold, over-revs and/or stalls. Not sure if it is something to do with the choke, injection system, idle control valve... Once the car is warm, the temperature gauge is going up and down like a yoyo every few seconds. And there is no hot air coming out of the ventilation, barely warm - makes it hard to demist windsreen and keep warm. I guess there are a few different problems that need fixing, but I could do with someone experienced on Explorers and not to far from Fleet, Hants. GU52 postcode.

Can someone send me a pm with Duncan's email or mobile number? Sounds like he is reasonably local and knows his stuff.

Cheers and Happy New Year to all.

Bert, I have PM'd you Duncans mobile number and I would love to come with you if you go up to see him.

Sounds like you may have thermostat problems and intake gaskets too.

Thanks
Mike

Bert,

Did you call Duncan? If so, how did you get on. I may have to go and see him soon as I need an idler pulley.

Thanks

were in purley about half hr away, there is a guide on this forum explainin on how to either take the long way round of removing the whole dash and parts to get to the blend door or simple dremal cut to get at it from under the passanger well.

Yes I gone thru that tread-explains everything with pics.I just hope I will be able to do it on my own.I'll give it go.I was hoping somebody have done it before from around my area and can give a hand or do the job.First time is always painfull :)
Anyway will post how did it go

I am in Richmond, Surrey, I cannot do the chains, but if you get anything else parts wise, I have done just about everything else..if I can help anyone just see if I am free,
It may be a few weeks tho as I am recovering from an accident that I lost an inch from my ring finger left hand!
