Speed sensor? O/D light blinking

So my 97 Explorer Sport has an intermittent blinking O/D off light, which I know signals transmission error. My OBDII scanner doesn't read that, but it did show me that the vehicle wasntw reporting a speed. However, the speedo is working fine. I'm guessing I need to replace the speed sensor at the transmission?

You need to know what code it was throwing. Get an ELM327 and Forscan or a decent code reader.
