OK, so now that its -20 (Yeah! :D I love cold weather :D ) here in MN, my X's speedometer reads about 1 gear fast until it warms up. What I mean by "one gear fast" is this:

Normally:
it is going 30 MPH at 2500 RPMs in 2nd gear.

In the cold:
it is going "30 MPH" at 2500 RPMs in 1st gear.

So this is about 10-15 MPH fast. I am almost positive it is the speedo and not the tach because I can "feel" the speed I am moving at. Once it warms up it the speed and tach "agree" as normal. Other than this, the speedo works flawlessy. This issue doesn't bother me because I just use my tach as the speedo. But in my never-ending (and often frustrated) quest to have absolutely nothing wrong with the X, I am just wondering why it is doing this and if there is something I can do to fix it for cheap.

mine does that same, guessing that anythign mechanical just wasn't meant to work at these temperatures and this is one of the side affects. Think about it, it goes from around -20 to over 200 under the hood depending on the weather. Just glad nothing else happens.

:chug: :chug:

Mine did this to me the other day. It was about 25 deg. outside (my OHC read 29 and it's a bit 'optimistic'), and I was doing about 65. All of the sudden my speedo needle sped up to about 85 mph, and I was slowing down. When I came to a stop, and accelerated again the speedo jumped to 30+ mph when I was REALLY doing about half that. I figured my speedo gear finally gave out (it's been making noise for about 7 yrs!)....when I left work it warmed up to about 40 deg, and the speedo was 'back to normal'....

I dunno what the problem was. All I know is that it went away.

I still need to get the speedo gear swapped out. It's REALLY annoying.

Never wear a Speedo in cold weather.

Especially if you don't have the abs for it. :p

Mine does the same thing.... but only when it's below -10C or so and it seems the colder it is the farther it's out.... I just use the tach for most of Dec Jan and Feb
