1995 Sport 4WD
Hi new here but not to Exploders!
Just had to dump my 1992 Sport 4WD 5spd cuz the spring cradle rusted away.
Sad cuz it only has 91k original on it.
Pretty well rusted tho.

But.....

I just bought a 1995 2dr Ford Explorer Sport 4WD.(Stock)
Has 104k 4.0 6cyl Auto with OD.
LOW milage for a 95....seen SEVERAL Exploders with 150k+ and even 200k!

1995.....104k......4WD....bullet proof engine good for 200k.
Has power winders.....cruise......AC all work....even a working factory CD player!
Needs rocker panels as they are rotted off and the bottom 2in of the tailgate is gone....both easy to replace.....$650.00 wasn't bad!
Usually Exploders same condition 1-2+ years newer and at least 150k miles are bringing $1800+ in my area.
This one with a lil fix'in around a $900 total investment I could easily get $1500 out of it!

Anyway to the point! :rolleyes::D

Driving it home speedo said I was doing 60mph but the Wife was following me and said I was doing 45mph
I'm thinking a Speed Sensor on the Transmission?
Dealership beats around the bush as to this being the problem
(ofcourse they want me to have them check it and charge me a wad)
All I got was.....
"That's a cheap place to start"
When at all possible I fix my own.....saves me HUGE dinero!

Anyone able to shed some light on this speedo problem?

*It does have the proper 235-75-15 tires on it.*

Are you sure her speedo wasn't off? :D

Yes, it's probably the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), they run about $35 so it's not an expensive part to "throw at" the problem if you don't have a way to test it.

Speedo could be off....I just got the vehicle so it's hard to say.
AutoZone has the Speedo Sensor for $17.99.
I'll hafta have a look and make sure a wire isn't coroded or the like.
Just gotta wait for this pesky NE weather to warm up.
40F with a 20-25mph wind don't make it fun for puttering outside. :D

How about something that coulda been swapped from a 4dr Exploder?
4dr has 225-75-15 tires and has a longer wheel base.
Highly doubt the front end or rear end as a person would hafta change em both to match. But maybe the transfer case?
From what I can tell the 4WD works.

Dunno if the diff tween a 235 and 225 tire would throw the speedo that much.
But a gear somewhere might.

Anyone know the specs for the diff gears on the speedo sensor?
One is Pink and one is a dark Purplish color.

The one in my 2dr sport is the Purplish color with the 235/75/15 tires
My neighbors he is junking is a 4dr with 225/75/15 tires is Pink.

Are these correct?

I haven't found any repair manual that tells the specs for the diff color gears.
