I know, but the pic is factory never been changed. And its orange and says right on it 19 RH, counted the teeth and their is 19 and it has a right hand twist. The reason for changing the VSS was when we pulled the Tranny to change the Slave Cylinder the old VSS got a little bent and, the speedo was bouncin a little anyway and there was a code for intermittent VSS so I figured what the hell I'll just change it anyway. So I pulled the old VSS and went down to Ford and got me a new one, got it home opened the box and no gear so I put the old one on it and within two days it threw another code. So I read the code and it was P1500 VSS circuit intermittent so I take out the VSS and the gear is not perfect not bad but not perfect and from what ive read if they aint perfect you can get a code.

Thanx A million Tbar. Im calling ford now.

Wait, mines a 96 manual 4 wheel drive wouldnt that make it Tan part #C7VY-A, even though my factory one is definately orange and not tan. Im gonna check my manufacture date to see if I fall in that category where they changed something mid 96 to something from a 97. Be right back

whoops, yup I guess my dislexia kicked in there, supposed to be Pink for manual tranny or pink regardless if the EX is four wheel drive, but hell it dont look pink it looks orange, not like it could sun fade buried in the transfer case. lol

freakin ford just closed, that sucks guess im putting the oldd one back in again till tommorow.

....Heat changes color on some..:dunno:

With 19 teeth, its either pink for manual tranny or tan for auto...

...At least you have some more info when you talk to ford...:D

hmm, maybe, you think that coulda been pink 12 years ago, lol..Im ordering the pink one tommorow, none in BC have to get it out of Edmonton.

K called Ford ordered right gear. ANy other ideas as to what might cause code for VSS circuit intermittent.

New gear will be here tommorow, I'll reset codes and see what happens, I checked the wiring from the sensor all the way up and wiring looks A-OK, gonna head to the wrecker and pull another set of wires just in case, I wont get charged for them, guy who owns the wreck yard owes me one. Just wondering if I got a bad VSS sensor cause the gear looks pretty good, and if the internal gear was chewed up the VSS gear would be chewed up as well and its really not check the picture looks good.

OK, got the new gear which looks exactly like the old gear except Pink instead of Orange and mine is 100 percent orange no way it changed color that much, either way the teeth and right twist are the same as well as the letters and numbers on the sides of the gear. And i have now come to the conclusion that there is nothing wrong with my gear, it cosmetically and physically exactly the same. I actually mic-ed the teeth on both gears and they are nearly identical. So I put the new one in anyway and same problem speedo bounces between 40 and 50 KPH's, and no cruise control. I checked the wiring harness from the VSS all the way back or front to the big black plug nothing pinched and no visual damage to speak of. Crap im out of ideas. Could use a few if anyones got em. Im going in to check the CEL tommorow again but my guess it will be P1500 VSS circuit intermittent.

Nope gonna get the code read tommorow and go from there.

well put the gear in, checked the code and it was P500 VSS circuit intermittent, so I reset the code and within 20 minutes of driving its coding again so, got to be something else speedo is still bouncin at between 40 and 55 Kilometers per hour, and no cruise control. Other than that it runs great but I want it fixed and I really suck at electrical but the harness looked ok.
