Speedometer Question

Well I've had this problem in my '91 Ranger and a '91 Escort (never fixed them)and now my '92 Explorer is doing it.....I got in my X this morning when it had been sitting all night in the cold......I put the truck in drive and took off......in 1.2 sec I hit 85 MPH!!!! (leaving for the drag strip now!).

The speedometer went crazy for awhile until the truck heated up good (about 20 minutes). I am curious as how to fix this and make it tell my actual speed all the time. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Lube up the cable real good, and make sure the connections are tight. The end that goes into the transfer case has a little gear on the end, make sure it is not damaged....
