What are all the parts that control the speedo on a 1997 explorer xlt 4.0 sohc 5r55e. I know im missing something. it works and jumps and stops.

I've been having the same problem with my '98 XLT 5.0L for 2 years now. I've replaced the entire dash cluster and still the same problem. I've excluded the speed sensor as cruise control works perfectly fine. Anyone have any ideas ?

I have never torn into one of these. I am a new exploder owner. Is the speedo cable driven? If it is, the cable between the speedo and the cruise module is probably bad.

I would check for shorts in the wiring, that can cause the speedometer to jump if the shorted wire is jiggling while you drive, which could cause shift problems possibly.

There are usually wiring books on eBay. I get a complete set of manuals for all of my Ex's...

The speedo is not cable driven, btw...
