Lately, when I start my explorer up and put it into either drive or reverse, the engine starts revving in short, spontaneous spurts without me pressing on the gas. One time, I just held the brakes on so it didn't move and the engine turned off. Also, if I put it into neutral as soon as it starts doing it, it goes away, but may come back when I put it back into gear. Finally, there seems to be no problem when I am pressing the gas or after it has been running for a minute or two. Anyone have any ideas? Does it have to do with the tranny, engine, or electrical? ANY help would be appreciated. Thanks

Similiar symptoms

I dunno man. We've got similiar symptoms but not quite the same. It should'nt have anything to do with your tranny. Ours just runs real poorly with RPM fluctuations till it warms up in 2-3min. If we try to drive off before then it usually dies unless you can feather the gas just right and go, then it's fine. It does'nt happen again till the next morning. It's one of the damn sensors or maybe EGR valve but troubleshooting is a PITA. So far, no luck. I may spend the $50 to diagnos but I really don't trust the shops to shoot straight with me.:(
