spooky power window fuse...cannot find it..

2004 Explorer. The back windows have not worked for a year or more. The front two are fine. Is there a fuse for only the backs?

Should only be 1 fuse for all windows. Do the windows work from the master switch or the switch on the rear doors at all?

When I bought my Ex one of the rear windows didn't work. I discovered that the previous owner unplugged the switch. Don't know why since it can be turned off from the master switch. Maybe the kids played with it too much? :dunno: Start by checking to make sure the switches are plugged in. Click here for instructions on removing the door panels.

Could be that the motors are shot.

Hope this helps out! :D:thumbsup:

The windows do not work from the Master or the back door switches. What is strange about my problem is that (doing these dates from memory) from 2004 to 2007 they worked fine. They stopped working in 2008, they worked again in 2009 - 10, and then have stopped since then. I am thinking, but not sure that they worked in the winter and not summer. I am in Houston and it gets hot here. I am curious if they start working again when it gets cooler. Thanks for the door panel instructions, I am not very handy around cars so it will take some courage for me to take my panel off. :D

Taking the panel off is easy. Take you time and follow the instructions.

Try banging around the inop window glass from the outside while pressing the down switch. It sounds like the window is stuck in the run, this is a common problem and this fixes it most of the time. Once the window/s is down lubricate the run(the track that the glass slides up/down in) with silicone spray, then operate the window several times to spread out the lubricant.

i have the same issue. passenger window does nto work. I squeezed the wires coming out of the driver door and into the body thru a rubber wire loom and the passenger window worked! I dont see how i can get into the rubber loom that houses the wires. Anybody have a solution? I am sure i'll find a broken wire that needs to be spliced.

I had similar electrical issues with my 02 xlt. The dome lights would stay on until the battery saver feature turned them off, the accessory delay wasn't working, the driver side puddle light didn't work, the keypad on the door would set off the alarm when I pressed it, the door ajar light would flash and beep at highway speeds, the radio would shut off as soon as I turned the key off, the delayed accessories didn't work, etc. Most recently all 4 windows stopped working.

A lot of electrical issues can be traced back to broken/damaged wire(s) in the boot between the body and the driver's door. I found 2 broken wires and repaired them. The thin black ground wire was broken and after repairing it all was back to normal. When the windows stopped working, I repaired the thick black ground wire and the windows now work like a champ.

Here is a great thread for checking for broken/damaged wires, thanks to synyster for this awesome write-up: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=270081

Be sure to take your time when looking for broken/damaged wire(s). Check all the wires for breaks/damage. When you think you're done looking, look again, and again, and again. A bright flashlight can be very helpful.

I tried the banging on the window that AviatorSport suggested, but no help. I hardly ever have anyone ride in the back seat so the window stays up most of the time. Even when someone is back there the AC is going so I am suspecting inactivity as the culpret. I appreciate all of your help and will just have to put up with it as getting it fixed just isn't worth the money. Thanks,

Keep trying, sometimes it takes alittle longer then most. Not using the back windows often is what causes them to get stuck.

Thanks a ton for the help! Found the broken wire plus the one for the door locks was bare and ready to break anytime

there is a fuse for the pw but with another name on the drawing..
i think it was number 17 or so..
its placed on the fuse box under the steering wheel
Thank YOU SwedenBob. Out of dozens of ideas and much stress. That 17 fuse was the animal. All windows work. 1 month of wasted time, money and a lot of rain soaked seats....no mechanic in all the forums or even the dealer suggested fuse 17 under the driver side panel...WHOO HOO...Best of life to ya my friend!!!!
