Ive been searching for a while, and i would like to know is there anything at all for the ST sohc engines? Im talking like cams or something cuz i want to bring out the full potential. I know of the basics like intake, exhaust, throttlebody, etc etc but theres got to be more. Is there even a crate engine for it? Any help appreciated..

As far as I know there aren't any cams for the 4.0 SOHC (yet*). Cold air, JBA headers, chips, and an exhaust is about it. That said, Explorer Express has a supercharger kit but it costs around $4000.
It would be a bit of work but you should be able to swap in a 5.0 and wiring harness from a wrecked V8 Explorer.

* The new Mustang uses the 4.0 SOHC for the base engine, so I would expect some speed parts pretty soon.

That last part u mentioned gives me hope. I forgot the same engine is in the new stang. As for chips ive seen bama chips, jet chip, and sct. I assume they all do the same thing? I know the jet chip is the cheapest.

bama uses SCT equipment with their own custom tunes

also, Jet chips maybe the cheapest, but they arent the best tunes compared to Bama's

Lots of people on the Sport Trac site like the XCal2. Mine is leased and I only have a year to go so I didn't bother.

The XCal2 can be transferred from one vehicle to another pretty easily, just mail it to your dealer and have him reflash it.

The XCal2 is a great deal because of the Data-Logging, Code reading and other benefits beside the HP and mileage.

I am a custom tuning dealer and I use the same software as Doug @ Bamachips. I am very familiar with the Ex. Contact me if interested in tuning. I also carry CAI's,catback exhaust and underdrive pullies for your ex. Believem me this thing can run. Contact me... James

it all depends on how far you want to go. this other site i go to alot had one of the members drop a 350v8 into his. so it is up to you. you can do anything with the right money and some one to do it.

4.0
1992 4.0 from a Ranger. The 4.0 version, although produced in Cologne like the others, was only fitted to American vehicles. The pushrod OHV engine was produced until 2000 and was used in the Ford Explorer and Ranger. Output was 160 hp (119 kW) and 225 ft·lbf (305 N·m). Though there is some variation, typically 155 hp is quoted as horsepower for 1990-92 applications.

Applications:

Ford Ranger/Mazda B-Series(1994 and newer Mazda B-Series only.)
Ford Explorer/Mazda Navajo
Cross Lander 244X
Ford Aerostar (1990-1997)

SOHC
A somewhat-related SOHC version was introduced for the 1997 Explorer alongside the pushrod. It uses a jackshaft in place of a camshaft to drive a timing chain to each cylinder head. Three timing chains are used, one from the crank to the jackshaft, one in the front of the engine to drive the cam for the left bank, and one on the back of the engine to drive the cam for the right bank. The SOHC version is the last Cologne engine still in production, though it will be phased out starting in 2007 in favor of the new Cyclone. It featured a variable length intake manifold and was good for 210 hp and 245 ft·lbf. Ford Power Products sells this engine as the SOHC-640.

A version of the SOHC engine as used in the Land Rover LR3 and is good for 216 horsepower and 269 ft·lbf of torque at 3000 rpm.

Applications:

Ford Ranger/Mazda B-Series
Ford Explorer
2005-2007 Ford Mustang
2005- Land Rover LR3

Other Cars using the Cologne V6
Ford Capri
Mercury Capri
Ford Consul
Ford Granada
Ford Sierra
Ford Scorpio
Merkur Scorpio
Ford Transit
Ford Aerostar
