Went to the auto show yesterday and we were really impressed with the sport trac. Did anyone go out to purchase an explorer and buy the sport trac instead. Can anyone give me their comparisions of the two vehicles.

Nope, can't help you with that, but I went out to buy an Explorer, and came home with a F-150 SuperCrew. Better ride, more storage, quieter, more power, more interior room, similar fuel economy...

It depends on what you want to do with it. Sport Trac wouldn't work for me because sometimes I need to carry a long load or a canoe on the roof.

IMHO, an Explorer or a Ranger with a cap would be more practical, but to each his own.

I actually traded in my 06 explorer for an 07 sport trac. Part of it had to do with the awesome end of year deals they had going on but I also like the st better. I do alot of camping and found it frustrating having to make sure and put something down in the back of the explorer if I wanted to haul fire wood or bags of ice or anything else that may have gotten the explorer dirty. Now I just throw it in the back.

I was actually going to upgrade my 12 year old Ranger to a F-150, but after trying the full size truck and comparing to the Sport Trac, I decided on the Sporty. Don't need the extra room from the full size that much and the added benefit of mobility(parking garages) and fuel economy(V-8 OD gets same as 6 on the hiway), plus downsized garages on a lot of new homes, made the splorerTrac look read good. I find the sound insulation levels to be very acceptable, given the sun roof and fordor. W/ the factory subwoofer, I generally hear just music and no road, when listening to tunes.

After a year I'm ready to splurge on a Magnaflow or other Cat-back and at least a performance filter. Will see about chip tuning after the basics are taken care of.

The general manager at the Ford dealer I go to told me he doesn't understand why half the Explorers sold aren't Sport Tracs. I call it an SUV for people who need to haul dirt.

I went to get an explorer and came home with an expedition! The only thing I didn't like about the trac was the lack of a V8 at the time I was ready to buy.

Wife wanted an SUV. We were looking at Explorer, but I talked her into the Trac because we NEED a pickup as well. Don't work out of it or haul much, but we live in the country. No garbage pickup. Had a Focus ZTW wagon before. Hauling trash in it made it smell awful. Even after cleaning the rubber liner mat!
