Trying to decide on a second vehicle...looking at 3rd gen 4Runners and 1st gen STs. Due to age, the avg. mileage is about 150k so I'm a little concerned about transmissions. I like the Sport Trac interior and truck bed better, more powerful engine is a plus. Offroad capability seems to be about even, maybe leaning towards the 4runner (but it's not a MAJOR concern.) From what I can tell the 03+ Tracs are the way to go...someone talk me into something.

Oh, also need to fit 3 car seatsm which makes me lean toward the Ford.

(In the way of intros, I'm in San Antonio, Tx, ride a motorcycle most of the time, but my baby is a 75 Bronco. I've had a Ranger, Excursion and Exploder (which had trans problems.)

Welcome!
Sport Trac all the way! (yeah, I'm biased :)) You should be able to find them with much lower miles if you look around. In my area, I've seen quite a few with under, or even well under, 100k for sale.

Welcome to the site. I've always been the first to suggest the ST but for your needs I would lean towards the 4runner or another SUV. You're not going to fit three car seats in the ST, I know this because when we have our nephew with us it has just enough room for two. ST's are getting harder to find with lower miles (under 100k) on them. You've gone through the trans nightmare, the ST's is more expensive and not as easy to source a used replacement as the regular Explorers. Toyota's are extremely common and pretty cheap, especially in Texas.

True, Rebel, I didn't think about the car seats. The tracs are quite narrow.
