Stall problem today???

So today i was driving down the highway and I went to make a U turn and as I turned the wheel to the left my Steering wheel locked up and maybe a sec or two later my truck just Stalled on me.. It a 2002 4x4 off road with a 3.0 v6.. I just got this thing last saturday... What could be wrong????

I think the problem is that you're vehicle is stuck in 4wd. You shouldnt drive 4wd on dry pavement or else the bind in the drivetrain [between the front and rear axles] will cause the engine to sputter and die. Try removing the front driveshaft and making the same U-turn. If the vehicle still dies, then its not a 4wd problem. If the vehicle doesnt die, then its a 4wd problem.

Well that depends and I'm not familiar with Rangers so Im not sure exactly which type of driveshaft is in the front. But there are only two types, either a double-cardan driveshaft, or a true CV "ball" type driveshaft.

Dont pay attention to the 2nd from the top driveshaft cauz that doesnt apply to this conversation (I found the image on the site).

But anyways, if you look under your vehicle and find the top driveshaft connected to the front axle then you have a CV "ball" type driveshaft. You remove this by unbolting the 6 or so small (but long) bolts at the transfer case and then the 4 bolts at the yoke on the front differential/axle (total of 10 bolts).

On the other hand, if you look under your vehicle and you find a front driveshaft that looks more like the bottom driveshaft or second from the bottom driveshaft, then you have a double-cardan driveshaft and such a driveshaft is held on both sides (the transfer case side and the yoke on the front differentialaxle) by 8 bolts total (4 on each side).
 






Easiest thing to check is the fuel pump shut-off switch. It will be by the center floor outlet or behind the pass side foot cover. Just press down on the red button to reset it. Good luck.
 






If you just stalled out and got it running again than it shouldn't be a fuel issue. Like Izwack was saying if you were in 4wd or if the control trac engaged and the front wheels locked up than you could possibly stall depending on how low the RPMS dropped. See if you can replicate the issue by doing u turns in your neighborhood at slow speeds.. Also try it on inclines.
