Stalling, hard to start, short distance driving

I removed everything and took the heads to a machine shop. It didn't take long for them to notice that both were cracked beyond repair. When I get new heads, I was also going to replace the waterpump and thermostat while I was at it because they did not seem to be working great the last time I checked. I was wondering if it was possible that due to the overheating that something else in the engine block cracked as well. Tell me what you think.

Definitely the thermostat, water pump your call. If it wobbles or leaks yes. It only takes a half hour to replace otherwise. Cracked block possible, but from what I've read unlikely, most certainly out of my realm of experience. Perhaps others can expound.
For an overheated engine I think you got the worst of it, of course oil and coolant changes. Check hoses for decomposition, cracking, etc. Do a search on fan blade check, mine cracked the first time I overheated. The fan would turn but had no force; very puzzling. Again others might have suggestions.
Congratulations on getting this far, installation is reverse of removal!

Ok you heated up the heads enough to blow a couple of head gaskets do yourself a favor and send the heads out and have them machined to true them up or you will likely be doing this again. Now drain that oil to get the water out and hopefully you read this in time to be able to turn the engine over enough to flush out your bearings and other rust able components or by the time you get the heads back on you will also be dealing with bigger problems and you will surly shorten the life of your bearings. Also the oil on the O rings makes them swell up in ten to fifteen minutes so do not lube them up too far in advance or they may not go into place properly. Good luck.

How would I go about turning the engine over and what would I do to prevent the rust?
