Hello everyone,
I'm new here, just got my explorer two days ago, acutally yesterday, it was in the mechanic for two days. Anyhow, here is my prob. maybe someone can help me. The baby starts up great, runs great, idles great. But after a while the idle starts to jump and as soon as that happenes I can't move it, as soon as I hit the gas pedal, it kind of stalls and won't move. Feels like the engine is dying. If I try to pump the gas pedal or floor it, it just sputters. Then after a few seconds of this it shuts off. When I try re-starting it, it starts right up, with a perfect idle. What the heck? The fuel filter is new the tank has been cleaned, it has a functioning fuel pump. Any ideas? I thought it might be a sensor or or the injectors. I know for a fact it feels like the engine at that specific time when this happenes isn't getting enough fuel. Yesterday was my first day and I drove it for a few hours and it got worse, every few minutes it did it. I couldn't let it get to a low idle had to maintain a high idle to avoid this.

I'd run a fuel pressure test and see if that tells you anything.

I'd guess fuel pressure regulator.

Don't guess, run the tests.

Good luck......
