2013 Ford Explorer XLT
Hello, I just purchased my 2013 Explorer a few days ago. I've noticed several noises when I open the door and start the engine. It sounds like some components are calibrating and I hear what sounds like a computer hard drive spinning, followed by several clicks. The entire scenario lasts about 30 seconds. When I turn the car off same thing happens. Is this normal? Should it be that apparent?
Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum.
For a minute there I had to check that you had a 2013. The 6th gen Explorers make all kinds of noises when you get near them with the fob, start them up and shut them down. Going back to my previous Explorers, I can't recall if they were the same. I do know that they weren't like the 6th gen Explorers in that regard. I don't believe anyone else has posted this about the 5th gen but it wouldn't be unusual to hear some electronic features come to life.

Perfectly normal, you will hear entertainment center boot up and in car modules come to life you may also hear a click or motor noises as some things self test.
All my cars over the years that have been tech loaded have done this. I would say as more tech is added it becomes more noticable.

Thank you! This is also happening when I turn off the engine. Are you hearing noises when you shut down?

Yes as some modules stay on for a certain amount of time for different reasons, I can hear them shutdown Only for a second or so. If it is a long time or any sort of grinding or pops it may be time to look for codes in for the internal modules to see if any sensors are sticking.
