I'm fairly sure my starter is toast. Do I pay the extra and stick with Motorcraft? Or is Bosch or AC Delco a reasonable option? Anyone have any experience with either brand in general or starter specific?

Thank you!

The word I’ve heard is that Bosch is the go to. However it’s typically more expensive.
Most people here seem stuck on Motorcraft parts otherwise.

My original plan was a reman'd Motorcraft, but them decided on a new Bosch. Had a suggestion of pulling and checking the starter. It checked out fine so reinstalled and now it starts. So either I had a bad connection at the starter or at the battery itself, either way unhooking, inspecting, and rehooking did something right because now it starts.

New Bosch wasn't too bad from RockAuto, $130 shipped I think it was. About $50 cheaper than the Motorcraft. Here's to hoping I won't need one anytime soon.

I recently put in a new Bosch starter (from RockAuto). Probably only have about 100 cranks on it so far. No issues.

So in a weird turn of events, I removed it to verify it was bad or not. Turns out it was good, so reinstalled. Verified the connections at the starter and battery and I have a feeling there was just enough corrosion at the positive cable that it wasn't letting it start. After reinstall and checking connections, it fired up and has been fine ever since.

Glad I double and triple checked a few things and didn't spend unnecessary money.
