- 2001 Explorer Sport 4WD
Hey everyone,
I just bought a new to me explorer sport 2 door 4wd with a 157k on the odometer a couple days ago. I talked the p.o. down a few hundred and then got there and talked them down another couple hundred. It definitely isn't perfect but I have major plans for it.
Things that are wrong:
1.) Both outside door handles are broken at the plastic part so I have to use a couple pairs of pliers to open lol. the driver's side broke while I was about to buy it which helped me get more money taken off the sale price hehe.
2.) the passenger interior door handle is broken but still able to open by hand.
3.) the interior is completely disgusting as it was a work truck for most of its life.
4.) the hatch doesn't open and everytime u go over a bump u hear it thud.
5.) the rear bumper looks as if someone sanded it down and looks way lighter then the rest of the trim.
6.) passenger window off track but closed
7.) abs light on and as of today I popped a CEL for bank one and two being lean and right front speed sensor circuit malfunction.
8.) front rotors are warped, shakes when applying brakes.
9.) the trim on the bottom of the seats are broken off at the tabs and seats are filthy and hard to operate as they tend to stick and not want to move forward.
10.) definitely not all of it but all I can think of at the moment
My plan:
1.) I have already ordered three new door handles for the inside and outside
2.) I am gonna try and salvage the carpeting in the front and back passenger but not the trunk. Taking the truck to car spa for a deep shampoo and cleanse on the floors tomorrow and already ordered some heavy duty black rubber mats for the front, back passenger and the trunk space.
3.) fixing the hatch is definitely a priority as its annoying as hell
4.) the rear bumper, tow hitch and all the tan trim at the bottom has been painted already by me matte black.
5.) I'm not even gonna mess with the passenger window myself, (bad experience once) so ill take that to an indy shop.
6.) gonna clean the MAF sensor and search for a vacuum leak and hope that's the issue. and eventually get new ABS sensors (not a priority right now for me)
7.) I ordered Brembo drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic brakes.
8.) Going to the local pick n pull for hopefully some nice leather seats from a different explorer. (any suggestions on what other seats might work is definitely helpful)
9.) I plastidipped the cup holder center console portion and the center fascia around the radio as the condition prior was just poor and nasty looking
10.) I removed the carpet and insulation in the trunk area as it was too disgusting to salvage and Lysol'd the hell out of everything, cleaned the carpet as much as possible and filled 3 grocery bags full of trash ranging from half eaten toy pterydactyls to dissolved pennies. disgusting but 10000 times better looking.
Parts already ordered:
Brembo drilled and slotted rotors
ceramic brakes
AVS smoked headlight covers
VHT Niteshades for the tail lights
Door handles
Floor mats for the entire carpet region
18 inch Exxel five spoke rims
I apologize for the length of my intro so if you are still reading, make sure u follow the progress. I'm definitely gonna put my own personality and style into this SUV and it will be one of a kind.
There is more that I am doing to it but ill keep the rest a secret til I get the parts here.
