this morning i got in my truck, and when i went to start it, it wouldn't turn over. not even make the sound of the engine turning over. it was like i had the battery un-hooked. all my lights are bright on the dash.its not a low battery. this never happened before. i drove it 14 miles, shut it off went into the carry out and when i got back in it did the same thing. after i turn the key on and off about 6-8 times, it finally starts. most of the year i had a code coming on for my cam position sensor. but for the past 3-4 months the code hasn't came on.could it be the cam position sensor? any ideas and help will be greatly appreciated! thanks.

no one with any thoughts? just last week i sprayed 6 cans of undercoating under the truck. i probably got some on the starter. would that cause my starting problem?

can you hear any click from the engine compartment when you turn the key?

the CPS code is unrelated but you may want to check into it, as it could point to your cam chain on the way out. Most of the time it is simply a bad sensor though...

I would check the starter relay sounds like it is getting stuck, or there is a bad connection to the relay terminal...

no there is no sound at all. i checked the starter and i didn't get any undercoating on it. i just tried starting it and it started right up. could getting undercoating on the ground cables under the truck cause this?

only if they were removed when you coated them...

the only way to tell is check the solenoid feed when it does not start and see if it is getting +12v. It sounds like you have a bad solenoid.

yea thats what i was thinking.i didn't move them, or un hook them.so the contact is still the same. where exactly is my solenoid on a 2000 4.ol ohv? thanks for the help.

Thats a tricky question some models had a separate solenoid mounted on the fender well. While others had the solenoid as one unit with the starter. I think my sohc is one unit however your ohv may be different. I'm sure someone else will pop in here that has a gen2 ohv...

you can also trace the main wire from the starter if it goes to the battery then your solenoid is mounted on the side of the starter. If the line goes to a small black cylinder with about 4 wires (2 large 2 small) then you just found your solenoid.

ok, i'll take a look undr the truck at the starter. i looked at the starter the other day and i believe the solenoid is on my starter. but i'll double check. my alternator is only like 6-7 months old.thanks for all the help!
