Hello all My 96 explore 5.0 starts up but i now have to put my foot on the gas and the moment i remove my foot it dies haven't been able to get it to Autoaone for a code check as it will not stay running. befor this happened i did notice that while driving if i went to accelerate it would just stay at the same speed no matter how far down i push the pedal. if i release the pedal and press it again it then would go fine like normal the truck has over 220k miles on it but i was running like a champ.there are lots of post of starting problem but haven't seen one like mine. My knowlege of cars is soso but i was thinking its a feul pump issue but i need help.

Thanks All

Sounds like your throttle position switch has taken a part time vacation. I would also look into cleaning the throttle body and the idle air control.

thanks i will replace the switch Autozone has it for 26 bucks also what should i use to clean the throttle body and idle air control valve. i was once told to use W-D 40 and then someone said brake cleaner so don't want nothing to catch fire or worse.

NO on WD-40 and HELL NO on the brake cleaner. Just use intake and throttle body cleaner. Available at any auto parts store. You don't want to use carburetor cleaner either. I don't really know what it would hurt, probably screw up the sensors, but stay with the recommended cleaners to be safe.

Yavapaires your awesome got the part today it had a hole threw it asked Autozone about that said it was ok replaced the part and WALA started and stayed started runs just like it did befor the problem. Only problem i had was some plastic shield was coverin the area didn't know how to position it away and when i was trying to it snapped.
