Starting Problems When Hot

I have a 94 ex that will not start when it is hot. I can drive it for about thirty minutes shut it off and it will not start. I have to leave it setting for at least 2-4 hours. This wasn't a problem until it started getting warmer outside now if it is over 70 degrees outside no matter how long it sets it will not start. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Mine did that when the O2 sensors were going bad.

Pull codes and next time it acts up check for no spark or no fuel pressure. I had a crank position sensor do this to me as its coil resistance gets higher when hot and at cranking speeds would not generate enough signal voltage to trigger the module. I changed the CPS and problem solved, good luck.

I had the same problem

Hope this helps. My sons 94 explore was doing the same thing. I changed the coil pack and thought it fixed the problem. It didn't, the problem came back. When it wouldn't start again I jiggled the wires on the plug to the coil pack and the truck started. I removed and replaced the plug and thought the problem went away. It didn't,same problem. I talk to a friend of mine at Autozone and he said they could test the Ignition module. I removed the battery and found the connection on the ignition module not locked on. Removed the module cleaned the connector on the module and the connector reinstalled and the truck started right up. I actually belive I have a fix this time we'll see. Hope this helps.

Welcome to this forum! Besides checking the O2 sensors, and the CPS, you should also check the MAF, ACTS, IAC, and the CTS. Just in case you're not familiar with this alphabet soup, these terms are the oxygen sensor, crankshaft position sensor, mass air flow sensor, air charge temperature sensor, idle air control, or otherwise known as the air bypass valve, and the coolant temperature sensor.

I have exactly the same problem, intermittent. I have replaced the IAC, the CTS, all O2 sensors readings are ok, MAF is ok....The engine crank fine, but no start. I take normally 4 start before the engine run. When it run , first it will idle ruff for 3-5 seconds and after that , all seems to be ok......Nop troubles code....

Did you check to see if you have any spark? It could be an ignition module, coil/coils, crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, clogged fuel filter, or a bad fuel pressure regulator.

needing help finding out why my 94 ford explorer has trouble starting when hot I have changed every sensor under the hood and the o2 sensors, It will eventually start but run ruff for about 5 miles, then clear out until I go to start it again.
