I drove about 8 miles. turned off the explorer. turned it back on about 5 mins later. I wouldn't start. as if there was insufficient charge in the battery. turned the a/c off and it fired straight up...

anyone else had this?

any suggestions what it could be?

I'm going to get the battery checked this afternoon....

Mine was doing something similar last year, it would start from cold fine but if the car had run for 10 minutes or so it would not restart and would need jumping off another car to get started. It was as if the battery was flat, it wouldnt crank over although the headlights and dash lights were bright.

The battery was completely knackared though, im currently running around with a tiny little one off my pug 205 since last november and its been absolutley fine :)

Got the battery tested at Kwik Fit... knackered!! they quoted me £10 more than Ford did.... oh well, it'll only have to last me 10 weeks...

If you know someone with a Halfords trade card you can pick up a battery for good money. I was quoted £62 for a direct replacement with the trade discount for the explorer, its still alot of money but was cheaper than the alternatives around here. In the end i put my little 205 battery on and it has been fine, it hasnt the CCA of the explorer item but its never been an issue, even when it was -8 in december last christmas.

If your only using it for a few weeks go down the scrappy and buy a replacement for a few quid with the same terminals on as the Ex

I'm gonna be away for 5 months. It still starts and apart from the one blip this morning, it's been ok. so I'll just see how I go, I don't have to worry about it once I leave...
