I have a big problem. when i came out of a store i tried to start my car but it would not catch it would crank but nothing i did would help. i had started the engine about three times in the last 15 minutes so the engine was hot but i could not figue it out i lifted my hood to check the engine and could really see no problem ( as my hood was lifted a stranger came by in a first gen and asked if i needed a jump, explorers owners are good people, so i told him what was happening and he could not help me) once i called my dad he came over and the car would still not catch then i sat there for a moment and i heard the pump under the car sound for just a split second and the engine was fine, i could not understand the key was in the ignition position but the pump did not sound, the exp has 200000 + miles could i need a new pump or fuel was bad

any suggestions will be appreciated

did it eventually start? maybe the relay got hot? or you had a bout with vapor lock?

yes it eventually started. is was not hot at all i had been driving for about 3 minutes going form one store to another the second store it did not catch

I'd suspect the fuel pump.

how much would a fuel pump cost to get put in i doubt i could do it my self or would even want to.

I'd check the relay/contacts under the hood before I start messing with the pump. Should it happen again, leave the key in the "on" position and try wiggling the relay. If you hear the FP start, you've found your problem.

where would i find the relay and contacts and what would they look like

on the other hand the car has been progressevely harder to start within the last 3 months and i dont believe the pump has ever been changed how long do they last this one is up to 204000 miles

..

.. what is that??? some sort of internet jargon if you are going to post then post something that is at least words

The relays are in the black box under your hood, near the firewall. I can't remember which side however...
