cam sensor

Which engine do you have? There were three different engines in 1997.
The only purpose of the camshaft position sensor is to let the PCM determine if the cylinder 1 is on the compression or exhaust stroke. It will not affect enabling the fuel pump. The fuel pump should be enabled whenever the crankshaft is rotating. The crankshaft position sensor provides that information to the PCM. The fuel pump should run for a couple seconds every time the ignition is switched from off to run. Get your friend to listen to the fuel pump while you switch the ignition key off and on.

When it starts you here the fuel pump running but when you turn on the key no pump prime .

Check your fuel pump relay. You can swap the heat/AC blower relay and fuel pump relay and see if that works. If it does, then your relay is bad. And welcome to the forum!

I switched the relays with no luck I did get it to run with starting fluid ..
