2003 XLS
OK I just bought a new 03 XLS and I am leaning towards putting a JLAudio Stealthbox in it. I just have a few qustions... I went through a lot of these threads and noticed that alot of people who own stealthboxes have a w0, w1 or w3 in their box. When I called a couple of places to ask for prices, they told me at $499 i woould get the box and a W6. Basically I want to know if this is a good deal, what kind of bass will this give me, and why doesnt everyone else have a W6 in theirs??? I'm new to all this so any and all help will be deeply appreciated.:D

dont buy the JL kit. you can get just the box brand new on ebay for $170 (or less) and put whatever sub you want in it.

3 companies make the box : JL, MTX (thunderform), and q-logic. it comes in 2 forms too, 8" or 10". i have the q-logic with a 10" RF and it sounds prety good....not as good as i would like, but couldnt beat it for teh price and not having to lose cargo space.

Thanx for that bit of info (it's good to know this). what aboout the 10" jlaudio W6? Is it a good sub or am I gonna regret buying it?

i dont know anything about JL subs, but i would bet you could buy the box and the sub seperate for less.

i am assuming you speak of the one that goes in the pass side cargo pocket in back.

Yes that's the one... Do you think "one" sub is gonna give me enuff bass? If not how do you go about helping it out without losing any space?

dcepends on what you like. i had one 12" before this so i am coming up a little short, plus its a totally dif sub so it doesnt sound how i like. for the space though, it gets teh job done. to help it out, you could get a better sub with a more powerful amp.....i was looking at an infinity or pioneer premier 10", powered by a 1000w amp.

All those enclosers are for older explorers not the newer ones. Does anyone make one for 2002 and up??? beside the factory???

to the best of my knowledge, they are supposed to be for all explorers, but then again i havent looked in the back of an 03. why? what does yours look like?

The 03's are a lil bigger than past models but yes they do make a new stealthbox for it (at least jlaudio does). I know cause I called up a couple of stores and they looked it up in the catalog for me.

i'm willing top spend a lil money I just want it to sound good coming out of the stealthbox. I just wanna know what suband amp you guys think will give me good bass and volume??

chente619, welcome to the site, man! I see you're getting good help already. Just one thing though, you cannot use 2 user names here. That is a no-no.

Good luck on your sub, amp, and stealthbox! :)

Sorry I just can't log in under the chente619 handle from this computer and i don't know why. I made the name from a computer at work and when i came here and tried to log on it wont let me but i go back to work and it will.:(

how come when you goto JL web site theres no list for a box for 02-03-04 in it huh?

Hey guys I got some info from JL Audio about the 2002-up Explorers. Apparently they have a Stealthbox available, but only for those w/o rear AC. I'm waiting to hear back from them about those with rear AC. Here is the reply I got from them:

Yes, we do make a Stealthbox for the 02-03 Explorers, but only without rear A/C. If your truck fits this description the Stealthbox model that fits your truck is SB-F-EXPL2/10W3V2. This enclosure fits into the driver's side of the cargo area and houses a single 10W3V2 in a ported enclosure. Good luck with your Explorer project, and thanks for your interest in Stealthbox!

Hopes this clears things up a bit.

Reply 2 from JL- sux to be me :(

Unfortunately, the rear A/C in your truck prevents us from building a subwoofer enclosure in the cargo area because the side walls of the interior extend all the way out to the edge of the floor panels, which have to hinge
up. So there's no room to add anything. The factory has a small enclosure that fits into the passenger side panel but only houses a 5.25 woofer. The OEM enclosure is far too small for a 10 inch woofer. I would have to say
your truck is a candidate for a custom built enclosure, taking into consideration the compromises you're willing to accept for your particular truck. I don't know of any way to add sub to your truck without making some
pretty significant compromises. I would suggest you take your truck to your local JL Audio dealer and see if he has any ideas. Good luck, and thanks for
your interest in Stealthbox!

I have a 2000 and the Q-logic enclosure worked awesome. Sorry to hear that the 2003 is handicapped in that regard.

How bout a sub floor?

As far as a sub floor goes I don't think I have enough room. The third row seat takes up most of the space in the cargo area. I'll have to check it out. Damn rear AC. Should have let everybody sweat :P
