I've given up trying to find a set of alloys and I'm too tight to buy new ones.

So I'm thinking of sorting out my steels, the chrome on them is shot and won't clean up.

Looking at them, the chrome covered steel looks to be a pressed and fixed somehow to the steel wheel.

Does anybody know how? and is it easy to get it off? Just want to check before I get it half off and find it is a sod of a job.

If I can get the chrome off I want to powder coat them black

cheers

Get a srt of alloys and give them a damn good go with a steel brush on a good drill, then use a detail sander and finer grades till smooth, then undercoat witth filling spray and 3 top coats and 4 clear, about a day on each corner- I did that a few years ago, had the dreaded worm paths under my clear coat- looks great now!

hi jim the chrome covers are stuck on and its unlikely that you will be able to get them off with out damaging them i have tried . i have a set of north face alloy wheels that need stripping and repainting i know you like a project.cheers chris

thanks chris, what I thought was a quick fix before holidays is getting more involved. :D

I'll have a think about it projects to do before holiday include:

Finishing the back axle rebuild and fit it (royal wedding day seams like a good day) along with new springs, shocks rollbar.

Fitting the transmission aux cooler that I bought after the last holiday.

Fit a new exhaust system

Fitting the roof mounted TV/DVD

Oh and the usual plugs, filters and oils.

I'll see how much the local wheel refurbisher will charge to recon the alloys and let you know this week..

Man thats a job list!
I hope you get it all done- lucky you, I am still trucked and have all my bits and pieces in the boot ready to fit when I am able....all this time and cant do bugger all- so frustating!!!
The alloys I gather can be done for around 40 a corner- a mate of mine had a quote on some jeep alloys from a place in Hounslow- so not too bad for price, think they take about a week and most places can lend you some wheels of they have the 5 hole type lying around.
