Steering Box

1991 4x4 Explorer - has anyone adjusted their steering box. I seem to have play (wonder) in the steering, the rest of the front end checks out ok. ???

Yes, I adjusted my steering box several months ago...what a huge difference in the steering...it feels brand new again. There was about 2 inches of play before, now there's about 1/2 inch. To get this result I turned the adjuster screw a little over 1/2 turn clockwise.

Chech to see if the splined shaft coming out of the steering box moves in and out when you turn. I had the same problem, and I adjusted it, and it did nothing. My advice is adjust it like ricco750 said, and if that doesn't work, check for what I mentioned. If what I mentioned happens, you will need to replace the steering box.
