my 92 xlt is normally easier to turn than most small cars like cavys or probes and today when i went to go to work i had a rather tough time making left turns normally i just gently press my palm against the wheel and thats all i need to turn rights are still this easy but lefts require both hands to turn the wheel, any suggestions?

Have you checked the PS fluild level? Is it making any noise when you turn?

no noise no bubbles in ps fluid and level is right where it should be

My steering gear box went out. It was really hard to turn one way (I forget which) but really easy to turn the other direction. Sounds like the same problem you are having. Mine also gave no symptons before it became really hard to steer. I don't remember any weird noises either, just the hard steering in one direction.

My guess would be your steering gear box. But, I also had about a 1/4 turn of play in the steering wheel just before it went out. I replaced gear box and it is good as new, except for I still some excessive play.
