Steering Wheel Controls & AMP & CD Changer + After Market Deck

Ok so my stock head unit(display) is going out again, but thats not a problem the guy I know that fixes them will fix it for life. But I saw this today in a magazine I stole from my friends Dad.

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/CarAudioVideo/Source/CD-Players/Pioneer/FH-P8000BT

I like it A LOT! The biggest thing is the fact that it is DD so it will fill up the stock spacing. I hate the kubby hole look for a single deck.

Problems:

1. Will I loose my steering wheel controls? I do NOT want to loose them this is a big factor in me getting one. You would think that the wiring harness would transfer that too right?

2. The stock APM, same thing. You would think that the wiring harness would transfer that too right? Not a big deal I can run an aftermarket AMP no problem. A aftermarket AMP would mean my sub hits harder anyways, but not having to run one right away is just easier.

3. How about the stock 6 disk CD changer?

So yeah let me hear your input and knowledge on the matter at hand, also if you have seen some DD head units send me a link. Maybe you can find one thats better that works with my options better? Choices as always nice to compare.:salute:Cheers

you can keep the factroy amp and steering wheel controls (another part and $$) but no go on the factory changer

edited that last part to no go on the factory changer. there's a link above if you're going with a sony or pioneer radio that was a wired remote input. otherwise you can find one for alpine, etc or just use a universal one that has an Infra Red eye that turns your steering wheel controls into a wireless remote

I have that exact unit in my 99. The bluetooth is so much better than other Pioneer units. It's a very good stereo.

I use the PAC module SWI-PS I believe. Double check that. Steering wheel controls work great.

You will have to get the pioneer CD changer. No way around it. But that stereo will utilize a flash drive, so you can put all your music on that if you want.

I use the factory sub woofer and it's amp. If you are dealing with a different amp, you will need to make sure you utilize the low voltage outputs for the speakers.

Link me to it?

Wait, ok...You have used this? Or just herd about it?

Re read and yes you use it if I understand haha, so you like it? No problem with your stearing wheel controls now? This should not effect my heat controls? I could care less about rear sound controls. And with your aftermarket head unit your factory amp and sup works with it? no mods needed there?

I use it and yes it works. I actually programmed my mode button to be a mute button. You can program any of the buttons to do whatever is available.

No, it doesn't affect the heater buttons

You can use the factory subwoofer. You need to use a voltage regulator (best) or resistor (not the best) to get the enable circuit down to 5V. Otherwise the amp will pop every time you turn it on.

Wait, ok...What after market head unit did you have I would just copy your set up...

With most wheel adaptors, you can use any headunit that accepts an external remote. PAC is a widely-known and respected audio interface company. I've used them to hook into my stock headunit (before I changed it out).

As for the sub and amp, it only requires the right harness and some wire-tapping. You'll likely need this one. (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120705517/Receiver-Wire-Harness.html?tp=2977) The RCA goes into the head unit, and the wire off of it are the amp power on wires. You tap these into your stock harness. As one review states, you likely will need a 2-into-1 RCA adapter because the HU will have an L and R RCA, as opposed to the harness only having one.

I can help you through the process. However, I would need to see the rear of your radio--i.e., what harnesses are going into it now. Once that is out of the way, the rest is relatively easy.

As for the changer, it'll be done, though. But, with most units accepting either a USB or iPod harness, you can't go wrong with purchasing a $50 8GB flash drive, or if you want the full interface, a refurbed 80GB or so iPod to leave in the glove box.

Flounder - Wow thanks for the help, I do not know when I will be ready for this but this thread is helping me alot and I hope it helps other people. As for the head unit, got some links to some different DD one?

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/prodsearch.asp?SearchTab=Shop&search=double+din&x=0&y=0

Unless you're buying a harness, don't buy from Crutchfield (if you don't have to). Most local shops will meet or beat their prices. When my HU was released, Crutchfield wanted about $175 more than I got at a brick and mortar (authorized seller, too) shop. Crutchfield's good for seeing what's out there.

The issue with non-screen double-din units is that they're going the way of the dodo bird because screen units are becoming cheaper and cheaper.

Even a search of the major audio supplier websites is slim.

I think you're the one with the blue-accented interior, though. Some of those blue-themed units might look pretty good.

The pioneer is the one I was looking at and yes my interior is accented in blue. Thank you :) I not have this thread when I need it, with the christmas almost being here I'm running dry on money so yeah. But I will save up and get everything I need slowly :) Thanks for the help!

I just got the same radio for my 1999 EB

I am installing the same radio this weekend on my 1999 Eddie Bauer; and I was just wondering if:
1.) you needed a special adapter to mount the radio to get it in the dash?
2.) did you have to do anything to get the subwoofler to work.
(or will the OEM Amplifier Integration v.4 adapter fix this?)
3.) anything special for the ant.

1.) you needed a special adapter to mount the radio to get it in the dash?

I was wondering the same thing. Is there any modifications needed to fit a DD unit in a 96 limited?

what wire did you tap into for the pac steering wheel mod i had the premium sound in my 2003 explorer and i also put in the pioneer 8000tb but dont know what color to tap into. What wire did you use
