Hello, I've just noticed after 3 months of owning the car, the lights on my steering wheel that light the words up on the buttons do not work. Is this a dark car thing in Forscan or could this be a wiring issue?

My Interceptor still has "dark car" enabled and my steering wheel lights work just fine. Fuse or wiring issue would be my guess.

I'm replacing my PIU steering wheel with a non PIU steering wheel soon. I'm not sure where to start in terms of wiring and that fuse box is very hard to get to if it's a blown fuse. Could just be the wheel itself, hopefully and nothing else.

I don't know if this might be it. It's in the cabin fuse box. I believe you do have interior lighting do you not? Might not be it then. :dunno:

Yes and no, the lights don't come on when the doors open, however if I use the push switch, they work fine.

Unfortunately, it doesn't differentiate between courtesy and the demand lamps which in your case work. Hard to tell if the courtesy lamps aren't working because of that fuse. It's unfortunate that the fuse box is so difficult to get at.

I found a fuse diagram and there's a fuse for "Demand Lamps" but not courtesy lamps in the PIU.

Do the lights in the door switches and in the central climate control panel work ?

For my 2014 PIU I have noticed that if the instrument cluster/control panel dimmer control is set very low, the steering wheel control switch back lights are very very dim.

Yeah, the other lights work when headlights are turned on. Everything but the steering wheel lights come on.

The steering wheel button backlights are on their own circuit from the rest of the most of the controls. Only thing on the same lightning circuit are the switches to the lower left of the column, aux climate control control (if equipped). start/stop switch (if equipped), and the "top finish panel lamp", whatever that is (it's in the center console).

If any of the other LEDs work, then it's likely the clockspring is the issue. If none of them work, then it's an issue in the SJB, perhaps the FET protection circuit has been triggered.

The clockspring is fine, no airbag light or anything. Buttons work in any position. Could be a cut wire within the steering wheel itself, like I said, I'm replacing it with a non-PIU wheel (when I return from Arizona). The wheel was pulled from a 2018 Ford Flex SEL, only reason I did that was to have the black trim instead of silver.

i have this exact issue, did you ever figure it out?

After some research into mine (you don't have any info about yours in your profile or signature), I've decided it has to be the clock spring or a cut wire in the dash (to make the interior darker), since everything else on that circuit lights up.

Welcome to the Forum Steve.
I'm not sure which member your post is directed at. Every post here shows a vehicle type in their profile.
Thank you for the diagram.

I guess something in my desktop browser or system or the forum skin I'm using made that text so large that it pushed the information out of sight in the area below the avatar. I can see some of it today...

...but the information still doesn't start on the same line as the heading (same for city).

Remove the column lower cover, turn the parking lights on, and measure voltage at the Pu/Gy wire in the rearmost clock spring connector. If it's ~12V and the wheel lights aren't on, the fault is in the clock spring or steering wheel. If it's significantly lower, the fault is in the dash wiring.

Mine was the fuse, i don’t remember exactly which one, but all it did was the light for the steering wheel and the courtesy lights
