steering

i was goin through a bunch of mud and i hit a bump and all of a sudden i lost my power steering... i've put 2 quarts of fluid through the pump and it still comes out muddy but only when the car is running. if the car is turned off it looks more normal. it doesn't pump much more when the car is running either. does anyone have a clue what the problem is????

I've now put 8 quarts through!!! its turned the normal color but it doesn't feel like i have any power steering at all. Is it the pump or could there be something else wrong with it??
