Open up the butterfly on your TB and see how much carbon build up is behind there. You may want to get some Throttle Body cleaner and clean it out. That usually gets rid of a "sticky" feeling.

yeah been meaning to clean that and the MAF. guess I will now.

what works best? for each of them?

thanks

BG Products makes a TB cleaner which is a little expensive, but it works wonderfully. I have used STP's TB cleaner and it does the job.

For the MAFs, use a electrical contact/circuit board cleaner. Wurth makes this kind.

super, thanks, where can I get the BG? oreilly or something?

Check the area where the linkages are connected. I once had this problem on an 89 Sable with a 3.0L. I sprayed all of those linkages on the TB with WD-40, and it eventually loosened up. It was pretty still, and sometimes didn't always jump back on it's own. Check your return spring too.

the return is fine, it sticks when I'm trying to push it down, it comes back fine, sometimes it goes down fine too, but it is irritating when it does.

check for a recall.98 4.0 sohc had same problem.throttle body replaced.

thanks but its a 99 5.0 V8

Exact same problem on a 98 SOHC 4.0 w/ 122,000 miles. Had the TB replaced back when it was almost new. Removed the TB and found considerable gunk behind and around the throttle plate. Took about 3/4 can of TB cleaner, a brush and a rag to clean everything.

Problem was occurring mostly when engine warmed up causing the residue to become sticky. Hope this helps.

Try cleaning it like everyone suggest. Before cleaning unhook the cable from the TB slowly push on the pedal with your hand.Just to make sure your cable is not binding.Had one start to fray once inside the shielding. It stick going down and the return spring did it job by pulling it back.

I took the air tube off and cleaned the TB, but I think my prblem was the hood latch cable rubbung on the pedal mount. either way its fixed.
