My throttle has been sticking right at the beginning. It's starting to really get to me at stops. I guess it's either the cable or the pivot pin in the throttle body is gunked up.

I tried the zip-tie throttle body mod, didn't help this issue. I tried to spray a lot of penetrating and lithium oil on the outside of the pin, but there are 2 springs blocking the way.

Can I rebuild the throttle body? Can the pin be unbloted out so I can clean it off? I don't see disassembly instructions in the factory repair manual. The manual also says:

CAUTION:
Throttle body bore and plate area have a special coating and cannot be cleaned, or possible damage to the throttle body may occur.

Any advice?

I've seen many conflicting views on that "coating" argument. I scored a 5.0 TB for my truck that was ported and polished and the coating is long gone. Never seen any issues develop because of it after 4 years of using the TB.

Sorry, can't help you with the other issues you're facing. I'm sure you'll find a workable solution. Try scouring the archives.

Take it apart and clean it well. The spring is the tricky part-just take a picture so you can put it back correctly.

I bet what you are feeling is the throttle plate itself hanging up on a ridge of "varnish" inside the trottle body bore. The bearings for the shaft are pressed in and sealed.

You were exactly right. I could feel the sticking in my hand. It was gunked up bad. Any "special coating" that was put there 11 years ago was definately not there. Went to work with brake cleaner, rags & a wire brush and the sticking went away. Thanks, can't wait to go driving tomorrow and enjoy it!
