Ok all this began with my Explorer running weird, getting worse gas mileage...and then the dreaded check engine light. Pulled codes PO172 and PO174. Tested for vacuum leaks and found one in upper intake manifold. Replaced gasket. Seems to run a bit better but still having issues at startup. High rpm climb and shake/sputtering at idle. Goes away after a while though. Also, my gas pedal seems to almost stick in place so I have to practically floor it to get any throttle response. I was thinking idle air control valve....anyone else have any ideas?

What engine? Lower intake gaskets are usually the cause.

The lower gaskets are the cause of the rough running and surging. You will see the orings all shriveled up.

I'm not very mechanically sound by any means, I just know the basics...but if it were the lower intake gaskets wouldn't I also have some type of issues with coolant or other fluid leaks? I haven't noticed any...yet.

This engine is different, no oil or coolant go through the intake.
