sticky suicide throttle

has anyone had throttle sick on while driving mine got stuck whilst i was on by pass rd doing 80mph scared life out of me and passengers lucky no one in front of me i was able to compose myself slipped car into neutral and switched off engine if someone has same experience or cure would be grateful.

This has happened to me three times, I lubed the linkages and oiled everything. As stupid as this sounds, the third time I discovered that the car floor mat had ridden up against the accelerator pedal and was keeping it depressed.

I also saw a thread elsewhere in the forum where spraying the linkage at the throttle body with WD40 cleared it up. And something about a bracket at the driver's side that holds the accelerator pedal coming loose.

A search on 'gas pedal sticking' may help

There were several recalls about sticky throttle cables. One being about the floor mats. You can go to ford's US website and type in your VIN no. to see if there are any outstanding recalls on it. Whether this actually brings anything up for UK vehicles i am not sure, but it does bring up the model and year number.
