So I offroad quite a bit, and my car seems to bounce a lot. My buddy has a 4runner and on the same terrain, his car seems to have much stiffer suspension.

My ex bouncing...

Now, my question is, how can I stiffen my suspension? I know pep boys sells spring locks. Would installing those help? or maybe something else?

thanks in advance!

EDIT: Corrected. I need "Softer" suspension.

Well I can't provide much info, but I do wanna say that I've seen coil spring locks fall out, from to much flex in the opposite direction, perhaps they were just installed wrong. :dunno:

yea they do pop out from what ive heard. I figured it would be a good cheap option if there arent any others.

thanks BradR

Your vehicle is bouncing because the suspension is already too stiff and/or too short of a "travel". What you actually want is a softer suspension and longer "travel". Imagine a vehicle that has a fixed axle on the chassis (no movement), that vehicle will bounce and be uncontrollable on bumps - so the opposite is what you want, soft, controlled (shocks) suspension. This is what desert guys aim for - long travel and soft coils with of course proper shock valving to control the coil.

Yeah, if you don't care for losing them possibly, I would go for it, definitely. Get lucky...

Maybe even epoxy one side the the spring that way you cant lose them? :dunno:

Edit:
Or IZWack can smack us both in the face with our own illogical senses of thinking, lol.

Oh. Well then, I stand corrected.

Thank you IZwack, thats why i love this forum :)

Are there any specific parts you would recommend?

i can attest to what IZ said, i have coilovers on the front that are soft and Superlift rear springs that seem a bit harsh, the back seems to be bouncy as the front is soft and doesn't bounce at all,

Ok sounds good. So I should start looking for Softer suspension options...

Now, what are those options? Sorry, I'm new to this all so I don't know what to look for.

maybe find a spring that has a bit lighter a pound per inch rate, or is for a lighter vehicle,,
check out Eibach springs or Hypercoil, see if they have some, ,

OK, thanks for the help guys. I guess I'll have to wait cause it seems like getting new coils is going to be expensive as hell.

Well, to keep it cheap, what about going to the junkyard and getting springs off of a older/ more miles Explorer? Those would probably be softer because they are well broken in, but at the same time might be saggy. But again, :dunno: I have 2 second Gens... Not even sure why I keep walking into this forum, maybe it's a sign for me to tell my mom to get a 3rd Gen since her Windstar trans blew up. Lol.
