i'm embarassed askng this here ,but i do have a 91 XLT , I also have a 91 S-10 2 wheel drive with a 350 CU.inch chevy and it keeps tearing up the stock chevy rear end , and I need to know if a 2 wheel drive explorer rear end , is the same width ( from wheel flange to wheel flange ) as a 4 wheel drive explorer rear end . S-10 V8s say the 2 wheel drive fords and 4 wheel drive fords are dif . but the wrecking yards show them as the same . If it's close to the S -10 in width I want to use a 8.8 with a locker and disc brakes instead of that crappy 7.5 inch chevy because i have beat my explorer to death and the rear axle seems plenty tough!

im almost positive that both the 4wd and 2wd explorers are the same width

2wd an 4x4 explorer's are all 60" rear. I think your S10 is like 57 or 58". If you dont want to go to a rear wheel with more backspacing to compensate look for junkyard 9" rears. The early bronco rear is 58" and most car rears are the same.
