Do the low beams stay on when you use high beams?

On my 95 they seem to. I see way better at night with the 95 then I do my 2001.
I swear the low beams go off on the 01 as soon as I switch on the high beams.

i could be wrong but atleast in my 2000 mounty we only have 1 headlight bulb per side. im pretty sure besides i think the newer ones... your low beam bulb is your high beam bulb. it just is a matter of the angle of the low/ high beam.

i dont know the magical way it works but basically you turn your brights on it adjusts your low beam bulb. its not an actual different bulb. so if you see better with the 1995 maybe its just the angle? or type of bulb in there?

my mounty brights suck personally. im getting HIDs soon

I have not looked at the actual bulbs in either one yet.
I have had the 95 for 7 years and never replaced one. The 01 I have had only for a few months. But I sure can tell the diff driving at night.
Now the 01 on low beam works fine..it also has the lower driving lights that my 95 does not have so low is good. But as soon as I go to high beam it sucks..the driving lights go out on high beam and I know they are supposed to go out but if they stayed on that would help.
I will check both x's soon to see what the deal is..I just thought they would be the same and something might be wrong with the 01.

i use to have the fog lights on my truck but then i decided to cut them out. really they didnt do much IMHO.
i know for a fact we only have one bulb per side. its not that its cutting out its that maybe the angle is too high. try maybe adjusting the lights lower?

Yes they only have one bulb per side.. Some cars have two bulbs.. A separate one for hi and low and some have them on one bulb... Are you lens clean? You could try cleaning and polishing the lens... Or try using a Monty headlight as they are clear and the explorers are kinda a haze ...

Matter of fact the lens on the 95 are really hazy but the lens on the 01 are clear...both explorers.
But I can tell the low beams stays on in the 95 when the brights are on..but not on the 01.
I will prolly order some hid's off of e-bay.

The bulbs have two different elements inside it, a low and a high beam. The only time they should be on at the same time is when you use the "flash to pass" feature. At night turn on your high beams and then pull back on the turn lever and the lights should get brighter. It sounds like you have some kind of short on the 95. Now that being said I wish I could duplicate that short because I would like to have the brighter high beams.

Ditto, my 96 works the same way, high beams on, low beams off. The bulbs are mounted stationary. There is no way for the bulbs to change angle, unless manually adjusted. I believe there is a Federal law that states the bulbs cannot change angle from inside the vehicle. Could be wrong about this as not something I would normally be concerned with.

^^^^^ this is what i was trying to get at. i didnt know quite how to explain it though.

Yeah, the 95 is much nicer to drive at night. If it's a short causing it I wish my 01 had it also..lol.
I did play with the lever before on the 01 and you are right.
I can see way out ok it's just the area where the low beams normally light up good that is lacking...looks strange.

I'm kinda leaning toward adjusting your headlights.

Are you the Original Owner of the '95?
There is a Mod floating on the forum that leaves your low beams on while your high beams have been selected, same for the fog lights. It's possible a previous owner done this and you're used to that amount of light.
